KANYE WEST'S YEEZY BOOST WON THE 'SHOE OF THE YEAR AWARD'

 Kanye West took home some hardware last night at Footwear News' Achievement Awards- his Adidas Yeezy Boost was crowned 'Shoe Of The Year.'

“I want to fucking draw shoes, and it doesn’t matter if someone thinks that I’m supposed to be doing something that’s more important. [Adidas] gave me the opportunity, especially this first run, to make ’em however I want to make ’em. They didn’t say, “You got to make the logo four times bigger than the shoe.'”

“The [Adidas] contract said 25 SKUs, and the fashion show I was supposed to do a collection with 25 SKUs — I don’t know how that was supposed to happen. And the original talent budget was $500,000 — I don’t know how I was supposed to put a design team together for that, but luckily I’m a multi-millionaire rapper and I covered the rest of it.”

Let's just cut right to the chase: If Skechers or PUMA had created a Roshe Run look-a-like, I.E. the Yeezy 350 Boost, there's no way it would've been named 'Shoe Of The Year.' In fact, it'd currently be on sale at Marshall's for 40% off as part of an extended Black Friday sale.

This is more or less a "Most Hyped Sneaker Award" IMHO.

Nobody is going to take to the streets and protest this decision or anything [though we wouldn't be surprised] but it's pretty lame to just choose the most hyped sneaker as 'Shoe Of The Year.' 

Kanye is arguably the most influential person in footwear today for the way he has been able to create a sneaker that sells out instantly andresells for 5x the retail price, but that doesn't mean his sneakers are the best of the year.
